What is LEIA?

·LEIA will be on the surface of Lunar through NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS).

Instruments

·LEIA has a set of instruments that get together with aim of characterize the lunar radiation ambience.

·A instrument called "BioSensor" developed in NASA Ames, is an autonomous fluid-based system built.

·When LEIA land to Moon, NASA scientists will direct the BioSensor to deliver a fluid containing nutritions that will cause yeast to grow up.

·With a dye, BioSensor measure the growth of yeast and its metabolic activity with LED detection system.

·The other two instrument of LEIA detects radiation on the surface of lunar and measure the exposure of yeast.

·The Airborne Radiological Enhanced-sensor System (ARES) linear energy transfer (LET) spectrometer is a detector of charged particles.

·The Miniature Fast Neutron Detector (Mini-FND) determines neutral particles. Particularly selected for LEAI because it can measure one kind of space radiation that strikes the surface of lunar and bounces back.

·It's planned that the LEIA will land the South Pole of the Lunar at 2026.1

Why Yeast?

·Yeasts DNA has similarities with ours, with the inclusion of how cells commit to repair of DNA due to radiation.

·Used 2 yeast strains to determine which cell processes and genes play major roles.

·One of them is similar to the yeast which is used for bread and beer. Other one has problems with repairing the DNA of its.1

Conclusion

·LEIA is Lunar Exploration Instrument, designed for application of space biology.

·The instruments helps charactize the radiation ambience of lunar and biological reply to it. They provide useful datas for the safety of astronaut and exploration of space.
